Overview. The Super Mario Movie is an animated movie based off of the Super Mario video game series. it is an animated film created by illumination in collaboration with Nintendo. It stars Mario and Luigi who begin the movie as plumbers in Brooklyn and eventually make their way to the mushroom kingdom. The movie begins with Bowser attacking a penguin kingdom to take the super star. it then cuts to the Mario bros plumbing commercial (which I though was ridiculous.) and soon NES game references begin to appear. the bros meet their old boss spike who is wearing a wrecking crew hat (which is one of Mario's lesser-known appearances.)
