The Super Mario Bros Movie review.

 Overview.

The Super Mario Movie is an animated movie based off of the Super Mario video game series.
it is an animated film created by illumination in collaboration with Nintendo. It stars Mario and Luigi who begin the movie as plumbers in Brooklyn and eventually make their way to the mushroom kingdom. It is there that Luigi is captured by bowser and the main conflict of the movie begins.

Story.

The Mario movie has a traditional Super Mario story for the plot. The movie begins with Bowser attacking a penguin kingdom to take the super star. it then cuts to the Mario bros plumbing commercial (which I though was ridiculous.) and soon NES game references begin to appear. the bros meet their old boss spike who is wearing a wrecking crew hat (which is one of Mario's lesser-known appearances.)
Later Mario heads back to his parents' house (actually their first appearance ever.)
where he sees a news report that Brooklyn is flooding. (The news anchor is Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey.)
A scene from the Marios Bros plumbing commercial.

The bros go into the sewers where they are soon sucked into a warp pipe that leads to the mushroom kingdom.
It is there that Mario meets Toad when he screams "Do not touch that mushroom you'll die!" which is ridiculous as it turns out the mushroom is fine. Mario then meets Peach who takes him through a platforming course. the three then make their way to the Kong kingdom where they recruit cranky Kong and his army (which includes donkey Kong.)
Then they go full on Mario kart on the famous rainbow road track. on Luigi's side of the story, he is captured and brought to bowser by a Snifit and Shy Guys. Bowser later announces his
Mario when he arrives in the mushroom kingdom.
plan for him to marry Peach in front of his koopas.
A CRAZY luma is in the jail that they captured Luigi in. he says one of the most ridiculous quotes of the film "there is no escape. only the sweet relief of death." it's funny because after he says it everyone else in the jail just shouts "woah!" and he says it with a baby voice.
There are plenty of funny moments like this throughout the movie.

Luigi goes into a castle to avoid some dry bones.

The movie's final battle takes place in
Brooklyn where the Bros take down Bowser
with the super star. They return to the mushroom kingdom afterwards.

Music.

The movie's soundtrack is incredible with orchestra versions of classic Mario themes. but the song that the movie is known for is the hilarious Peaches. it really is hilarious with bowser playing the piano singing "Peaches Peaches Peaches." Over and over again. the selected songs were really good too with No Sleep Till Brooklyn by the Beastie boys and Thunderstruck By AC-DC.

Characters.

Mario.

Mario stands on top of a giant mushroom.
Mario is voiced by Chris Pratt in the movie, and he did great for this legendary character in this awesome movie. The story of the movie begins focusing on Mario as a plumber and Mario's family. he soon makes his way to the castle and meets peach who has him go through a classic Mario course. he states that he hates mushrooms, but he must devour them to become Super Mario. Mario becomes closer friends with peach and toad throughout the movie. he also recruits Donkey Kong by defeating him in combat which starts them off as rivals. the movie focuses on the bond between Mario and Luigi which is a good boost to the story. Overall, Mario is still and amazing character whether he's on your NES your switch or the big screen Mario is still cool.

Luigi.

Luigi is captured by Snifit and Shy Guys
Luigi is voiced by Charlie Day in the movie.
Luigi is separated from Mario when they enter the mushroom kingdom for the first time. he is captured by Snifit and brought to Bowser who will hold him in custody for most of the movie.
Peach, Toad and Mario rescue him at the wedding that Bowser had forced Peach into. they soon head into Brooklyn Where the final battle takes place. Luigi helps Mario by protecting him from Bowser's flames so they can get the super star and beat Bowser.

Toad.

Toad yelling at Mario.
Toad is voiced by Keegan-Michal Key in the movie. Toad is a funny little guy making jokes and acting ridiculous throughout the movie. he proves he is different from all the other Toads when he fights alongside Peach and Mario to stop Bowser. he is a brave little guy who helps take down the koopa king.

Bowser.

Bowser attacks a penguin kingdom.
Good old Bowser is voiced by Jack Black and he does great voicing this iconic villain. I mean come on Peaches is ridiculous and unexpected for a Mario movie. once again Bowser is trying to marry Peach in the movies story. he first steals the super star to convince Peach to marry him (as per usual in Mario.)
At the start of the movie, he attacks a penguin kingdom to take the star. Time and time again Bowser proves he just wants to marry Peach.

Peach.

Peach in her castle.
Peach is voiced by Ayna Taylor-Joy in the movie. Peach is not a traditional princess in the movie. at one point she grabs an axe to fight Bowser. she introduces Mario to the power up at the beginning of the movie. her origin is shrouded in mystery from the start as she says she arrived in the kingdom as a child. Peach is quite good at platforming as well.

Conclusion.

The Super Mario Bros movie is what all of us Mario fans have been waiting for. it is just amazing. Rotten Tomatoes might not agree but... you have to watch it. the movie is great for long time fans of Mario and fans who are just getting into it. It's also great as a standalone film. Come on... let's say it one more time... Wah-Hoo!
Final rating: 8.7/10⭐
