Jurassic Park Franchise Review (Books included!)

Ahh... Jurassic Park. one of the first PG-13 movies I've ever watched. let's see how they stack up to each other and the Michael Crichton novels!

8: The Lost World (1997)

Lost World to me is barely the weakest of the franchise (But still really good.) I read the book after I watched it and felt like it was missing something. (The movie) It's still an enjoyable movie but it lacks the jump scares of park and park 3. It has an... strange ending... that kind of makes it nosedive. the middle of the film where of course everything goes wrong. Overall, it is a B+ in the franchise. Score: 8.7/10⭐

7: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Now this is a weird movie. But it somehow turns out better than I had imagined. Fallen Kingdom feels like a cobbled-up prequel to Dominion. To longtime park fans you may think: "Aw a mystery?! I want dino food!" Um... no. JW2 is a VERY story driven movie featuring a very strange story revolving around Isla Nublar, Legendary Velociraptor Blue and [SPOILER ALERT!!!] a... Clone Child?! it seems like Universal was thinking "Get It out there! I don't CARE if it stinks! we need a lead into Dominion!" eh... don't get me wrong though it's still worth watching. Score 8.75/10⭐ (oooh...a half point...😂)

6: Jurassic World: Dominion (2022)

Dominion is pretty good. It is a tribute to the OG Park even bringing back Grant, Ellie, Malcom and Dodgson. (Dodgson! we got Dodgson here!) Combining them with Owen and Clair is a master stroke. Dominion is a great story and action combo that can live up to the franchises standards. Score 9/10⭐

5: Jurassic Park III (2001)

One of the Better films. III is a little... off on the story. Is kind of meh. but however, what it lacks in story (which is a lot.) it makes up for in effects and acting. Real quick did anyone think how they could hear a phone from INSIDE the Spinosaurus's stomach!? Other than an odd story this is a quality JP film. Score 9.3/10⭐

4: Jurassic Park (Novel)

Where it all started. This is one of the better books I've read! Lost World is the best novel, but this is still AMAZING. The story is much different for those of you who think that "Oh it's the same thing except it takes longer." NO. JP is a phenomenal Thriller/Action novel that is kind of like half-life in the way it combines Science for interesting scenes and phenomenal action sequences! Score: 9.6/10⭐

3: Jurassic Park (1993)

The first film is the best Park movie. Easily. With great acting, writing, and storytelling (Not to mention action and scares!) Park is a MASTERPEICE.  An ageless classic Jurassic Park is a phenomenal Motion picture with 3 (yes 3.) Oscars to its name! It won every single Oscar it could. The special effects were ahead of their time and Jurassic Park to this day remains a Legend. 9.8/10⭐

2: The Lost World (Novel)

Wow. one of the all-time best books I've read. The Lost World succeeds where the movie fails. The story, action, and writing are WAY better than the B+ film. The book is shocking, thrilling and overall, a work of art. It's not for the faint of heart however with gross descriptions of dinosaurs mauling people and LOTS of language. overall, this novel starring the presumed dead Ian Malcom is a Must-read for fans. Score 9.95/10⭐ (oooh... more half points...😅)

1: Jurassic World (2015)

The best film in the franchise is Jurassic World. World is my favorite because of 3 things. 1: The Characters and acting are awesome. 2: Uh... the effects are great and 3: Story is A+.
I enjoy the idea of trainable Velociraptors and how this introduces the Hybrid creatures. The Velociraptors and the T-Rex are the good guys this time around and there is a nice little nostalgia scene where two boys find the original Jurassic Park. There are some off elements to the story... ahem: "We need a field test for the Raptors!" (More like failed test.) but overall, JW is the top of the heap and earns itself a: 10/10🌟 Score.

Final Opinion:

Jurassic Park has its ups and downs. but it remains an all-time great. the books and movies are both phenomenal and if you've never heard of Jurassic Park before: Have you been living under a rock since 1993? Great franchise but JUST short of a 10.

Franchise Score: 9.8/10⭐

Top 10 best Video game comic adaptations.

This is my picks for the top 10 best Video Game comic adaptations. starting with number 10.

10: Sonic The Hedgehog (IDW)

I always thought STH was better with Archie. but that doesn't mean this one's bad. I've only read volumes 1,2,3, and uh... 7. (No idea why. Just got it from the library.) The stories are kind of B+ compared to Archie in 1 but it quickly gets better. Whereas Archie created its own freaking universe IDW follows the games. it's still a good read for Sonic nuts. Score 8.7/10⭐

 9: Batman Arkham Knight: Genesis

This is kind of cheating. Comic to video game to comic... again. It's a quality video game comic that is a prequel to Batman Arkham Knight. It follows a robin (Tim Drake... I think) as he becomes the Arkham Knight to extract revenge on Batman and Joker. it's a good read (actually one of the first Batman comics I ever read. I'm a Marvel guy.) overall it's an 8.9/10⭐

8: Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

An amazing adaptation of an absolutely ICONIC video game. This is 100% worthy of the Ocarina of Time game. This is not the only Zelda manga on this list FYI. One thing I like about this is (And it is a long time coming) LINK TALKS!! why can't they do it in a game?! Link being able to talk is what gives this book extra depth to the story. The writing is just amazing and is what gave it the win over all the rest to get here on this list. Score 9/10 ⭐

7: MegaMan NT Warrior

Mega Man NT warrior is three things: 1: A manga 2: A anime and 3: Awesome.
Ryo Takamisaki is the guy who got me thinking "Holy Crap! they draw AND write this stuff!?"
MMNTW Is a Manga based off of the Mega Man Battle Network games that recently resurfaced (They got their own legacy collection.) and the anime is now on YouTube. The book is what's good though. (The 2nd season of the anime is awesome) This 13-book series is amazing for its good art and storytelling. (The ending ties it all together) It has familiar faces (Bass.exe and ProtoMan.exe along with a cool storyline staring the Legendary Mettal) Overall, this is not the best MM comic but still... the other 2 are top 5. (FYI there is a 4th and 5th plus a 6th MM comic that I know of: MegaMan by Dreamwave Comics and Mastermix and Gigamix by Hitoshi Ariga. But I never read those) Score 9.2/10 ⭐

6: Pokémon Adventures

Pokémon Adventures is one of the most Legendary video game adaptations EVER.
I've read a GOOD bit of them. PA follows the events of almost if not every Pokémon game. (Even Mystery Dungeon!) PA is Completely original too! it's not "Ha Ha Ha nothing bad ever happens happy fun time." The manga is Superb in its story, and I've read um... somewhere near 30 of them. The best are Adventures, Black and White/ B&W 2 Diamond and Pearl and Ruby and Sapphire/ Emerald. Emerald probably has the best individual book where they bring every trainer before Emerald to fight. PA is just wow... Score 9.4/10⭐

5: Mega Man (Archie Comics)

If not for this franchise I may have never known who Mega Man is and never would have become the gamer I am today! As a kid I loved robots. One Free Comic Book Day My dad gave me the Mega Man 1# comic. I cannot find it today because it was destroyed, I read it so much. This was my first comic and I kept getting issues until it shut down. I liked how they had a fan mail section, and I always pestered my parents to send my art in. (I even got into issue 50!) Mega Man lasted 55 issues and followed a lot of games such as: Super Adventure Rockman (A Japanese Interactive anime movie with shooter sections.) and Mega Man 1, II and III.  The best arcs are Return of Dr.Wily (MM2), Curse of Ra Moon (SAR), Legends of the Blue Bomber (MM3) and The Ultimate Betrayal (MM3). Ian Flynn can WRITE. overall, Archie should have kept Mega Man, and I would have read it to issue 200. Score 9.5/10⭐

4: Halo: Legacy Collection

I enjoy playing Halo and purchased this comic with Christmas money. I was pleasantly surprised by the stories. Whereas Halo games are: "SHOOT SHOOT STAB SHOOT KILL KILL GRENADE BOOM KILL" All the Halo books I've read have really good stories. (Fall of Reach, Contact Harvest) Halo Legacy Collection features 3 comics: Halo: Uprising, Halo: Helljumpers and Halo: Bloodline. Halo: Uprising is honestly Meh. Brian M. Bendis is one of my favorite authors (Ultimate Spider-Man and Miles Morales the Ultimate Spider Man) And I was kind of disappointed. The art is not as good as the other 2 and the story is really okay. Halo Helljumpers is honestly the best Video game comic I've read. (Its 4 here because of it being in the collection) The story is not as deep as the Novels but it's still great. The art is the best in the whole book. Bloodline is weird. the story sounds like a good idea at first but it just doesn't play out well. Individual ratings: Uprising: 5.8/10⭐ Helljumpers: 10/10⭐ Bloodline: 8/10⭐ Combined: 9.7/10⭐ Helljumpers Carries the whole book with help from Bloodline.

T-1: Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

This is the Best VIZ manga I've ever read. This is a Freaking MASTERPEICE. it's actually tied in my book for 1st. These actually only recently finished. (Late 2023) this is Akira Himekawa's best work on Legend of Zelda Manga. The story is Perfect, and the art is amazing. As I pointed out earlier Link talking is a great decision and in TP it is the centerpiece. TP is tied together by Link and Midna as characters and make reading it all the better. The characters in the Manga rather than the story are what stand out to me. I enjoy reading Books with a good cast in it. some of my favorite casts are Halo: Helljumpers, Halo Fall of Reach and Sonic the hedgehog (Archie) and this incredible Manga. Zelda fans: READ IT. Score 10/10🌟

T-1: Mega Man: Megamix

I'm sure you can tell I'm a huge Mega Man fan. But Hitoshi Ariga is an Incredible writer. My pick for the best Mega Man Manga to date is Megamix. with storylines following Mega Man 1,2,3,4,5,6 AND 7 (And not necessarily in that order) Megamix creates original stories and designs from the Iconic NES Mega Man games. The first volume is a unique take on Rock's origin and the Mega Man 2 story (and a weird but good MM3 story) Volume 2 is a mismatch of stories beginning with a Skull Man Centered MM4 masterpiece and an awkward but hilarious MM5 story along with an EPIC Mega Man VS Bass story. But the absolute BEST STORY is the volume 3 MM6 Copy Robot story in which Mega Man's Double blows up cities and frames Mega Man himself. This series is AMAZING. But go see for yourself Fellow Mega Man fans!
Score: 10/10 🌟

T-1: Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic Universe (Archie)

Ahh... the longest running video game comic that sadly ended a few years ago (wish I'd kept my subscription...) STH was one of my favorite comics growing up (I am still collecting them to this day!) SU... I LOVE SONIC UNIVERSE! SU followed the edgier characters like E-123 and Shadow. My Favorite arcs are Silver Age (SU) An arc set in the future as Silver battles a monster reminiscent of the Sonic Generations Time eater. and Champions (SU) which follows the events of one of my favorite arcade games in Sonic the Fighters. One thing that shows the STH teams commitment is rather than drawing the games and calling it a day they created their own freaking UNIVERSE! STH takes place on Mobius rather than the game worlds. the older comics have their own take on Zones too. The storytelling behind the characters and lore is astoundingly good. and they had 3 series at one time! They did not just stick to the 2 main franchises either... they made multiple miniseries and Specials such as: Knuckles Chaotix, Tails and Mecha Madness Special! with talents like Ian Flynn, Pat Spazantite, Tracy Yardley and Tyson Hesse they had a stacked roster to deliver us one of the greatest gaming comics EVER. Score 10/10🌟

Thanks for reading my ranking of the top 10 Video Game comics.
